It's kind of funny that coming from Australia you just don't think of Central America as a travel destination, but the truth is that this is the equivalent of Asia to Aussies. There is a well worn trail of tourism from Mexico to Argentina, and I am in the loop. It is kind of handy because I only have about 8 weeks to get to the bottom of Argentina and over to Antarctica, the stops are out - Again!
